Dr. Taylor was an
assistant professor of health education at South Carolina State
University
ORANGEBURG -- Dr. Wanda Bethune Taylor, 53, an assistant professor of
health education at South Carolina State University, died Sunday, June
10 of a heart attack.
Dr. Taylor was a graduate of the University of South Carolina in biology
and earned her master’s degree in nutrition from S.C. State. She
received her doctorate in 1990 from the Department of Health Promotion,
Education, and Behavior at USC’s Arnold School of Public Health.
An
Orangeburg resident, she made her home at 163 Mt. Gilead Drive. She was
a member of First Baptist Church.
Born in Ft. Benning, Ga., she was the daughter of James R. and Dorothy
Smith Bethune of Orangeburg.
Surviving, in addition to her parents, are a daughter, Dorothy Alicia
Taylor of Charleston; two sisters, Brenda Bethune Rikard (Stanley) of
Lexington and Jamey Bethune Crumpton (Billy) of Prosperity; a brother,
James R. Bethune Jr. (Sandra) of Orangeburg; nieces and nephews, Jason
Crumpton, Blaire Rikard, Brett Bethune, Hailey Bethune, Jenna Bethune
and Kyle Bolton; former spouse, Charles S. Taylor.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 12, at First Baptist Church
with burial in Crestlawn Memorial Garden. Dukes Harley Funeral Home was
in charge.
