Nominate extraordinary Arnold School students for the master’s or doctoral achievement awards

February 2, 2015

The Arnold School of Public Health is seeking nominations for its annual student awards that will be presented at the Hooding Ceremony on Thursday, May 7 at the Koger Center. The School recognizes the academic, service and leadership qualities of its students through two awards: Jeffrey Keith Mattison Outstanding Student Achievement Award and the Doctoral Achievement Award.

In remembrance of Jeffrey Keith Mattison, who died two weeks into his graduate program of study in 1987, the Outstanding Student Achievement Award recognizes the graduating master’s degree student (December 2014 or expected May, August or December 2015) who exemplifies Mattison’s qualities through a combination of service, leadership and/or personal example. Important aspects of this award include a student’s interest and dedication to public health through service activities as well as personal characteristics that would contribute to having an impact on public health. Students, faculty and staff members may nominate students for this award.

The Doctoral Achievement Award is presented to the nominee who has demonstrated academic achievement (to be nominated, a student must have maintained a 3.7 grade point average), professional promise in creating meaningful and relevant research and/or practical application in the field of public health, and potential leadership and service to the community or to the field of public health. Faculty members may nominate students for this award.

To nominate a student, please submit the appropriate nomination form (Jeffrey Keith Mattison Outstanding Student Achievement Award; Doctoral Achievement Award) by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 to:
