Support Relay for Life April 20 at USC

March 12, 2012

The Arnold School of Public Health and the S.C. Public Health Association Student Forum have teamed up for the Friday, April 20, Relay For Life @ USC, a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. The event will get under way at 7 p.m. at the USC Blatt P.E. Fields.

The Dean's Student Advisory Council (DSAC) is seeking volunteers to support the $1,500 goal. Faculty, staff, students and friends are invited to help support the effort as members of the team or as individual donors.

Individuals who do not join the team can use the Web address to make donations.

Ways to Give

The team's other fundraisers, separate from the Web donations, include:

  • Relay For Life (paper) "cupcakes": These cupcakes support cancer patients who are "fighting for a world with less cancer and more birthdays." Donors contributing $1 or more toward the cupcake drive will receive a paper cupcake that displays their name. Paper cupcakes can be purchased in honor of or memory of someone with cancer. DSAC representatives (listed below) are selling the paper cupcakes, which also are available for purchase in the Office of Student Services, located in Room 112 of the Arnold School's Health Sciences building, located at the corner of Sumter and Greene streets.
  • Luminary bags: For a $10 donation, luminary bags will be placed on the track in honor or in memory of the donor's loved one who has or has had cancer. A luminary bag may be purchased online (at the link above). Forms for purchasing a luminary are available from a DSAC representative or from the Office of Student Services. (An email from the Office of Student Services to Arnold School faculty, staff and students also contained the form for purchasing a luminary.)
  • Coin wars "Change for a Cure":  Each department will "go to war" to collect the most change. Jars for coin contributions are being placed in departments throughout the Arnold School and also located in the Office of Student Services. The winner will keep the Coin War trophy in their department for one year.
