The Dean's Student Advisory Council (DSAC) has launched a new Web site.

The redesigned site has a fresh, new look and is updated with information about upcoming events and will soon feature a student spotlight page.

Visit http://www.sph.sc.edu/dsac/index_dsac.htm to learn more about the organization or link from the Arnold School's "Current Students" home page.

An important DSAC event is the upcoming Relay For Life @ USC fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, which is scheduled Friday, April 8, at the Blatt PE Fields.

This year's Relay for Life event coincides with the National Public Health Week, April 4 – 11.

Volunteers are needed to participate, and the goal is to raise $1,200 from Arnold School faculty, students and staff, along with family and friends.

Through this website, you can click on links to join the Arnold School team or make a donation to the cause. The donation for joining the team is $10.

Once you have joined Team Arnold School of Public Health, you can use the Web site to send emails to family and friends asking them to donate online and to check the progress the team is making toward its goal.

Relay For Life, the Cancer Society's signature fundraiser, is a fun-filled, overnight event. Teams of people will camp out at the Blatt PE Center's field and take turns walking or running around a track. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event.

To raise money, team members also:

  • Will sell "Relay For Life Cupcakes" to support cancer patients and their goal to stay alive for more birthdays. The "cupcakes" are $1 each and will be displayed with your name on the first floor of the HESC building.
  • Will sell luminary bags for $10 each. A luminary bag is a bag with a lighted candle placed on the track in honor or in memory of those you love who have or have had cancer. Luminary bags may be purchased online, from DSAC representatives, or the Office of Student and Alumni Services (HESC 112).
  • Conduct coin wars: Each department will compete against others to collect the most change. Cans for coins will be placed in each of the Arnold School's departments.

Last year the Arnold School collected $2,172 through Relay for Life fundraising events.
