Comprehensive symposium by Center for Research in Nutrition and Health Disparities addresses healthy eating

March 2, 2011

The Arnold School of Public Health's Center for Research in Nutrition and Health Disparities is sponsoring a symposium Friday, March 18, on the nationally compelling challenges of poor diet and physical activity.

Participants should register for attendance by March 10 for the event, titled "Healthy Eating in Context: The Role of the Political, Physical, Economic and Social Structures in Nutrition." The program, which is free and open to the public, will be at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. Early registration is required.

Arnold faculty and affiliated researchers have achieved national recognition for their contributions in nutrition environment and policy. Since improving diets and boosting physical activity through education alone have proven difficult, it has become increasingly urgent to develop and institute additional policy and environmental approaches, said Dr. Angela Liese, director of the Center for Research in Nutrition and Health Disparities.
