Registration under way for Nutrition Symposium March 18

February 7, 2011

The Center for Research in Nutrition and Health Disparities is sponsoring a March 18 symposium on the nationally compelling challenges of poor diet and physical activity.

Participants should register for attendance by March 10 for the event entitled "Healthy Eating in Context: The Role of the Political, Physical, Economic and Social Structures in Nutrition." It will be at the Columbia Metropolitan Center. The event is free, but early registration is required.

Arnold faculty and affiliated researchers have achieved national recognition for their contributions in nutrition environment and policy. Since improving diets and boosting physical activity through education alone have proven difficult, it has become increasingly urgent to develop and institute additional policy and environmental approaches.

USC faculty and affiliated scholars, staff and students are eligible to participate in the symposium. Peer-reviewed abstracts will focus on nutrition policy, household food environments and accessibility and availability of both healthy and unhealthy foods. The deadline for submitting abstracts will be Monday, Feb. 14. Abstracts which have been presented in the past year at national and international meetings also will be included.
