Mayer-Davis named Carolina Distinguished Professor
 

Elizabeth Mayer-Davis, professor of epidemiology at the Arnold School of Public Health, has been named a Carolina Distinguished Professor, one of USC’s premier awards for faculty scholarship. 

Mayer-Davis, who joined the USC faculty in 1997, also is associate chair of the Department of Epidemiology and the director of the Center for Research in Nutrition and Health Disparities.

In becoming a Carolina Distinguished Professor, Mayer-Davis joins a company whose members are ranking authorities in their field. 

Her nomination for the award noted:

“She is one of the nation’s most important scholars, but perhaps her more valuable contributions can be found in her efforts to translate vital research findings into practice. Her work has had a major impact on the nation’s health.”

Her areas of interest have included diabetes, obesity, nutrition epidemiology and cardiovascular disease

She has a publication record that includes 87 peer-reviewed journal manuscripts and four book chapters.

She is an editorial reviewer for 11 national/international scientific journals, and a frequent reviewer of grant proposals for the National Institutes of Health and the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute.

Her research in nutrition and the prevention and treatment of diabetes has help secure more than $l9 million in grants since she came to USC.

Mayer-Davis earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee in 1980, a master’s degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine in 1986 and a doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley in 1992.
