USC 2008 Reunion to
explore future care trends
of America's aging population
"Here's a Health Carolina," an information rich symposium on
geriatric healthcare and future health management issues, will be a
highlight of the Carolina Alumni Association's Spring Reunion 2008 in
May.
Sponsored by USC’s schools of medicine, nursing, pharmacy, public
health, social work, and the Institute for Families in Health, the
half-day program will explore future care trends of America's aging
population, how the university is addressing the future of elder care
and national health policy trends affecting the aged.
The Russell House is headquarters for the May 17 program that will
run from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Besides alumni, the program will hold
special interest for physicians, nurses, social workers, public health
professionals, pharmacists, and other health care providers.
Cost of the program is $35 per person, which includes breakfast and
lunch. Online reservations are available.

Eleazer will lead symposium on Promoting Independence for Older
Adults at 2008 Reunion |
Dr. Paul Eleazer from the USC School of Medicine and the newly-created Senior Smart Center will lead a
professional symposium on Promoting Independence for Older Adults. (CE/CME

Senior Smart is a new state-funded Research Center of Economic
Excellence headquartered at USC. It will focus on multidisciplinary
research to foster independence for seniors.
At USC that includes the school of medicine plus the college of
social work, the Arnold School of Public Health, and the college of
engineering and computing. Other partners in the project include Clemson
University and its center for automotive research, Palmetto Health, and
the Greenville Hospital System.
Other speakers include:
USC President Dr. Andrew Sorensen, USC Vice President for Research
and Health Sciences Dr. Harris Pastides, Arnold School Acting Dean Dr.
Tom Chandler, School of Medicine Dean Dr. Donald J. DiPette, College of
Social Work Dean Dr. Dennis L. Poole, College of Nursing Dean Dr. Peggy
O. Hewlett Joyce Dubow, associate director of the AARP Public Policy Institute,
will update the group on national policy implications. Dr. Paul Hickey,
a nursing faculty member who recently scaled Mount Everest, will be the
luncheon speaker.
The Spring Reunion is scheduled for May 16-17. It features a wide
array of activities in addition to reunions for particular classes. A
