Healthy Aging Forum to convene aging experts and advocates on December 9

The South Carolina Healthy Brain Research Network* and its network partners will host a Healthy Aging Forum: A Focus on Brain Health on December 9 from 9:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. in the Program Room of the Ernest F. Hollings Special Collections Library, which is located within the Thomas Cooper Library on the University of South Carolina’s Columbia Campus. The forum, which will include plenary and programmatic sessions, a research panel and networking, is being held to advance the public health research and translation agenda for cognitive health and healthy aging.

The day will begin with opening remarks from S.C. Lieutenant Governor Henry McMaster. Additional featured speakers and panelists include members of the USC Arnold School of Public Health, USC College of Engineering and Computing, S.C. Institute of Medicine and Public Health, The Division of Geriatrics at Palmetto Health, the USC Office for the Study of Aging, the S.C. Department of Health and Human Services, the Alzheimer’s Association, and The FriendShip501(c)3 Village.

The objectives of the forum are:

  • To promote awareness about cognitive health, cognitive impairment, and Alzheimer’s disease
  • To describe current research related to physical activity, nutrition and cognitive health
  • To foster collaboration and networking opportunities for researchers, students, and community organizations
