The Office of Fellowships and Scholar Programs is pleased to announce Klara Milojkovic has been awarded a Mount Vernon Fellowship with Haley Yaw being named a finalist. In its inaugural year, the Mount Vernon Leadership Fellows Program has selected fifteen fellows out of over one hundred applicants nationwide.

The Mount Vernon Leadership Fellows Program is a five and a half week, residential summer program in Washington, D.C. inspired by the life and leadership legacy of George Washington. The program is open to rising juniors and is generously supported by noted philanthropist and business leader David M. Rubenstein. The program will be based at the new Fred W. Smith National Library for the Study of George Washington. While in residence, fellows will participate in academic workshops, experiential activities, and a capstone project and will learn from the nation's top corporate, military, government, and non-profit leaders. The Fellows program is designed to encourage personal growth and professional networking while building leadership skills, exploring ways to impact society, and presenting a mission-oriented service project.

Milojkovic is a rising junior and a member of the South Carolina Honors College, where she is majoring in Chemistry with a minor in French. She is a Palmetto Fellows Scholar and Dean's Scholar. In 2014, Milojkovic was named a recipient of the Jessica Horton Outstanding New Student Leader Award and participated in the Summer Medical and Dental Education Program in Omaha, NE. Milojkovic is a Magellan scholar, researching with Ms. Danielle Schoffman and Dr. Turner-McGrievy on the relative effectiveness of two methods of family-based health promotion. She is also part of the Real Food Challenge initiative to shift 20% of the existing university's food budget toward community-based, fair, ecologically sound, and human food sources by 2020. Her interest and study of the French language has led to Milojkovic's involvement with the English Program for Internationals at USC and to her initiating and leading a French conversation class for middle and high school students in the community.

Yaw is a rising junior majoring in Exercise Science with a minor in Psychology and is a member of the South Carolina Honors College. She is a McKissick Scholar, Commissary Scholarship recipient, and is on the President's honor roll. While at USC, Yaw has served as the service director of Omega Phi Alpha and is a member of FemCo, a feminist organization on campus. Yaw's passion for assisting veterans is evident in her involvement with the Green Zone Ally program at USC and her future career plans to do physical therapy and public policy within the Veterans Administration.

These Mount Vernon Leadership Fellows Program candidates are supported by the University's Office of Fellowships and Scholar Programs, established in 1994 to assist students for national fellowship competitions. To learn more about national fellowships and competitions visit www.sc.edu/ofsp.
