Dr. Saundra H. Glover, director and principal investigator of the USC-Claflin Center of Excellence in Cancer and HIV Research, will be the keynote speaker at the 2009 Healthy Women Now Conference on Saturday, Oct. 17.

A respected public health expert and researcher, Glover also is associate dean for health disparities and social justice at the Arnold School of Public Health and director of the USC Institute for Partnerships to Eliminate Health Disparities.

“I am excited about bringing our message of health and healing to the women of South Carolina,” Glover said.

“There are a lot of hurting women in South Carolina, physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually. It is my desire that women will leave the conference with a renewed commitment to taking charge of their health by first addressing many of the issues that often get in the way of women paying attention to their personal health needs

“I want women who feel beat down and voiceless as to their health outcomes to leave singing…”Imagine Me, Totally Free, Living Life Abundantly!,” she said.

The conference, sponsored by the Vision Leadership Institute, will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Columbia Marriott on Hampton Street in Columbia. The theme is “Sisters Are Doing It for Themselves.”

Registration is $10 per person and should be postmarked by Oct. 5. For additional information, contact Willie Simon at 803-585-0412 or Pat Kelly at 803-747-6046 or visit www.visionleadershipinstitute.org.
