The Columbia Regional Business Report has named the finalists in its inaugural "Health Care Heroes" competition, and the Arnold School of Public Health is well represented.

One of the three finalists in the "Healthcare Researcher" category is Dr. Julius Fridriksson of the Arnold School of Public Health's Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders.

Norman J. Arnold, the school's benefactor, has been named one of three finalists in the "Community Outreach" category of the competition.

Finalists will be recognized at the awards dinner scheduled from 6 – 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, at the Marriott Columbia, located at 1200 Hampton St.

Winners in each of the categories – which also include Volunteer, First Responder, Nurse, Physician, and Healthcare Professional -- will be announced at that time.

The announcement of his finalist status came during a week when Fridriksson also was notified that he has been named the recipient of the Louis M. DiCarlo Award for Clinical Achievement from the American Speech and Hearing Foundation. The award recognizes significant accomplishments in the advancement of clinical service in speech-language pathology and/or audiology. Fridriksson will receive the award at the American Speech and Hearing Conference in November in San Diego.

Fridriksson was interviewed by media for news stories related to the University of South Carolina's research funding. One of those stories was by WSPA-TV, which covers the Greenville/Spartanburg area.
