BODY WORLDS Vital exhibit 'gets under the skin'

December 15, 2011

Body Worlds

The Arnold School of Public Health is a sponsor of the BODY WORLDS Vital exhibit, which is making its Southeastern premiere at the South Carolina State Museum.

The exhibit, which showcases the potential of the human body and the body in motion, is designed to help people see a contrasting view of the reality between healthy and unhealthy lifestyle choices. Visitors to the exhibit will have an opportunity to see the contrast between healthy bodies and those in medical distress.

The exhibit is being shown through April 15, 2012, at the museum, located at 301 Gervais St. Special prices are available for groups.

Dr. Gunther von Hagens, a physician and anatomist, was the original inventor of the process of plastination, which preserves bodies or specific body parts for display. All anatomical specimens on display are authentic and belonged to donors who legally allowed the scientific process to gain unique insights into the human body.

The exhibit gives visitors the opportunity to literally see what's underneath the skin.
