The Public Health Research Center is one of two primary buildings housing the Arnold School of Public Health on the University of South Carolina's Columbia Campus.

GraduatePrograms.com, an online resource for prospective graduate students, has ranked the University of South Carolina’s Arnold School of Public Health #4 in the nation in two different categories: Overall Value and Best Career Support. The rankings were compiled from reviews by graduate students participating in top public health programs across the United States.

The organization assessed Overall Value by asking students about their level of satisfaction with their graduate programs, whether they made the right choice and if they would choose that program again. Student feedback regarding Arnold School programs was provided via survey ratings, and comments from the survey (posted on their site) reiterate student perceptions of Arnold School programs as an excellent value. “USC was rated as #35 out of 229 graduate programs in Speech Pathology by the U.S. News and World Report,” says a current student in the Master of Speech-Language Pathology program in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. “Admissions are competitive…I feel lucky that I made the cut.”

GraduatePrograms.com determined the Best Career Support rankings by evaluating the quality of career planning, resources and support received both during the program and after graduation. Faculty and staff dedication is a recurrent theme among survey respondents. “The graduate program is well organized and professors can be reached easily,” says a student in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. “It was a great experience with professors that were always available when I needed them,” says a May graduate from the Department of Health Promotion, Education, and Behavior. “It helped me to land a job at the university in a field where I wanted.”

In addition to comprehensive program curricula and devoted faculty and staff, the Arnold School supports high quality practical learning experiences, such as practicum opportunities and graduate assistantships, for students through specialized practice and placement resources and services. Along with other aspects of an Arnold School education, these real-life experiences in public health settings help prepare students to be scholars, research specialists, teachers and experts in an array of public health disciplines and contexts.

The Arnold School offers more than 30 specialized degrees, dual degree and certificate programs, serving nearly 700 graduate students. The School’s primary mission is to expand, disseminate and apply the body of knowledge regarding prevention of disease, disability and environmental degradation; promotion of health and well-being in diverse populations; and provision of effective, efficient and equitable health services.
