Open House will recognize Arnold School achievements

May 6, 2014

The Arnold School of Public Health will hold an Open House to celebrate the move into the Discovery 1 building from 4:30 – 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 13.

The event will include remarks at 5:15 p.m. from Dr. Tom Chandler, dean of the Arnold School of Public Health, and USC President Harris Pastides, former Arnold School dean.

With many of the Arnold School's research labs, faculty and staff now located in Discovery 1, the Arnold School has a growing presence in the heart of Columbia. The Public Health Research Center on Assembly Street in Columbia opened in 2006 and was the first building of Innovista, the University's research campus.

The first phase of occupancy at Discovery 1, located at the corner of Greene and Lincoln streets, included faculty and staff of the Cancer Prevention and Control Program; several researchers from the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders; and the Columbia's Cooking! test kitchen, which provides community residents with the information and skills to create dishes that link research on nutrition and health with practice.

The administration faculty and staff for the Dean's Office moved from the Health Sciences building in January 2013 to the Public Health Research Center.
