As the founding director of the Institute for Partnerships to Eliminate Health Disparities, I would like to take this opportunity to post a farewell message on behalf of the faculty and staff of IPEHD. For those of you who are not aware, IPEHD as we created and developed it will officially close on June 30, 2016. At that time, I will retire from the University.
Words are limited in expressing how grateful we are to have had the opportunity to be the first unit (or one of the first) in the School of Public Health to create and facilitate academic and community partnerships committed to improving health status and addressing health disparities. We took great pride in and appreciate the opportunities we have had to connect the purposes and the work of our partners to address health disparities and promote health equity through research, student development, faculty development, and community outreach and engagement.
As we began the arduous task of closing down the Institute, we couldn't help but look back and we are amazed. We just worked without taking the time to celebrate, but as we reflect there is much to celebrate. Please take a moment and click on the link to the notable accomplishments of IPEHD over the years and celebrate with us. Of course, we could not have accomplished anything without our academic colleagues and community partners. You know who you are, and a huge thank you to each of you individually and collectively for your support over the years. There is still much work to be done if we truly have the will to eliminate health disparities and achieve health equity for all.
