Picnic

 

Dean Chandler has reserved the Paw Paw Shelter, Dogwood Shelter and Water Oak Shelter at Saluda Shoals Park in Irmo for Friday, April 28th. All faculty, staff, and students are invited to attend. Hudson's Barbeque will cater the event.

When you arrive, indicate you are attending the Arnold School of Public Health event and the parking fee will be waived. There is a playground area and a splash pad. Our group will have access to the “Saluda Splash” from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Kayaks and tubes will be available (at the deans’ expense) for those interested. Our group can reserve between 2:00-5:00 p.m. They must be returned by 5:00 p.m.

Be advised that food and drinks will not be served by the caterer until 6:00 p.m., so bring sufficient snacks/beverages of choice if you choose to arrive early. Tea and lemonade will be served with dinner. Items you may want to bring with you: folding chairs, picnic blanket, towels and change of clothes for children who use the splash pad, sun screen, sunglasses, bug spray, music (nothing obscene), cooler with snacks and beverages, and outdoor items such as frisbees or footballs.

Dinner will be served in the Paw Paw Shelter at 6:00 pm.

Please remember to pick-up after yourself before you leave ā€“ trash containers are located throughout the park and a few trash bags will be available at the shelter. The event will end at 7:30 pm.

The last day to purchase tickets will be April 21, 2023.

Finding Saluda Shoals Park:
From Columbia, take Iā€“26 west toward Spartanburg. Exit Piney Grove Road and turn left. Proceed approximately 1.5 miles to St. Andrews Road. Turn right, then left at the first traffic light. Saluda Shoals Park is 1.5 miles on your left.
