Clyburn Lecture
   

The James E. Clyburn Health Equity Leadership Award recognizes the contributions made by individuals and community organizations that have demonstrated a commitment to improving and protecting the health of the community, particularly vulnerable populations with established health disparities. Awards are presented to policy makers, researchers, health care professionals, and community leaders committed to eliminating health disparities and achieving health equity. Awards are presented at the Annual James E. Clyburn Health Equity Lecture, which is sponsored by the University of South Carolina’s Arnold School of Public Health, the Rural and Minority Health Research Center, the Center for Civil Rights and Research, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control and its community partners.

Award categories include:

1. Health Policy Leader in Public Health Recognizes state and local government officials who have made a positive impact on the population’s health and helped to reduce health disparities in South Carolina 

2. Health Care Leader in Public Health Recognizes members of the healthcare workforce who have contributed to public health initiatives and helped to reduce health disparities in their patient population(s) 3. Community Leader in Public Health Recognizes community organizations and their members who have made major institutional commitments to improve public health and reduce health disparities in South Carolina

 4. Leadership in Public Health and Health Disparities Research Recognizes a senior-level researcher who has done pioneering research in the public health and health disparities field 5. Emerging Leader in Public Health and Health Disparities Research Recognizes an outstanding junior-level (<10 years since terminal degree) researcher who has made substantial contributions to the public health and health disparities field

EXTENDED DEADLINE:  Tuesday, March 15, 2022.    

Award recipients will be notified by March 21, 2022 and are expected to attend the Annual James E. Clyburn Health Equity Lecture on April 14, 2022 to receive their award.
